ALOR SETAR: Members of the public are advised to bring and use their own cupping equipment when seeking cupping therapy as sharing unsterilised equipment can cause the spread of infectious disease, including Hepatitis and even HIV.
According to professional cupping practitioner, Syed Araniri Syed Ahmad, who is also Persatuan Pengamal Bekam Sunnah dan Rukyah Malaysia (Peberum) president, some cupping therapy practitioners were keen in using common equipment for their patients, sometimes without knowing that a patient might have an infectious disease that could be transmitted to other patients sharing the equipment.
“In some cupping centres, one set of cupping glasses will be used over and over again on different patients and will be cleaned simply by using hot water, which do not guarantee that the glasses will be 100 per cent sterilised.
“Knowing that, we at Peberum cupping centres, are using disposable cupping equipment as we are worried of causing transmission of infectious disease,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Syed Araniri said Peberum had also taken the initiative to organise Cupping Tour 2016 to create public awareness on the importance of using personal cupping equipment. — Berneo post
